Biography of Yulong Zhang
Dr. Yulong Zhang is a collaborating Research Scientist at Duke University who also recently held an ORISE Research Fellowship with the Threat Center in 2023/24. His research interests are to quantify and understand the roles of forest ecosystems in regulating global and regional carbon and water dynamics based on multi-source remote sensing, ground observations, eco-hydrological models, advanced statistics, and machine learning. He is particularly interested in monitoring and assessing the response and recovery of forest structure and functions under anthropogenic and natural disturbances at different spatial scales, shedding light on the potential of forest in maintaining key ecosystem services (e.g., carbon sequestration and water yield regulation). Dr. Zhang obtained his PhD from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, conducted postdoctoral research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and held a research assistant professorship at the University of Tennessee Knoxville.
