Biography of Bill Christie

Bill Christie joined the Eastern Threat Center in August 2010 as a GIS/Remote Sensing Analyst with over 20 years of experience applied to natural resource management and conservation issues in the Southern US. He has contributed to the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy and is the lead developer and co-manager for the HiForm (High-resolution Forest mapping) workflow. This customized tool is outreached and provided free to forest resource managers to accomplish near-real-time, and long-term, forest disturbance mapping and assessment. Bill is also Acting SysAdmin and revision development manager for the Threat Center’s Water Supply Stress Index (WaSSI) application. This application has international appeal for scenario-based modeling of hydrologic resources and ecosystems services. Bill also provides analytical and technical remote sensing and GIS support for his fellow Research Ecologist and Research Hydrologist colleagues. Prior to joining the US Forest Service he provided support for and created geospatial web-based applications for the States of Tennessee and Alabama, the Tennessee Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Huntsville Center. He received undergraduate degrees in Forestry (1979) and Geography (1981) and in 1984, obtained his Masters in Geography specializing in Remote Sensing and GIS from the University of South Carolina.
