2009 Partnership Highlights
International collaboration to model ecosystem services
A scientist working with the Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center joined a team of 14 renowned scientists from the United States, Australia, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences to conduct a research project focusing on quantifying the ecosystem services—water, carbon, and biodiversity—of forests and grasslands in Inner Mongolian, Mongolian, and Chinese forest ecosystems. This effort parallels Center research and development of a water supply and stress model that incorporates water and carbon interactions and their effects on regional biodiversity. Models developed by Center scientists will be tested using data from China, Brazil, and Mongolia.
