Research, Science Delivery, and Partnership Highlights


Awards and Honors

EFETAC researchers, collaborators, and support teams were honored for outstanding efforts, including:

  • Southern Research Station Director’s Awards for Distinguished Science, Science Delivery, and Partnership efforts
  • USDA Forest Service Best Communication Product/Output and Best Graphics for research-related posters
  • Southern Research Station Civil Rights Outreach Award
  • Eastern Threat Center researchers and collaborators were selected for key positions with several organizations, including the US Regional Association of the International Association for Landscape Ecology, USA National Phenology Network, and the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research


International Activities

EFETAC scientists and collaborators continue to expand research and partnership opportunities globally:

  • Represented the Forest Service at the International Union for Conservation of Nature World Conservation Congress and participated during the Mainstreaming Environmental Sustainability, Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Workshop in Korea.
  • Engaged in collaborative research with the Canadian Forest Service Great Lakes Forestry Centre to facilitate and harmonize research on invasive species modeling and mapping and participated in scientific exchanges during international conferences.
  • Collaborated with the Forest Service International Programs and conducted a rapid assessment of ecosystem service opportunities for the Rwenzori National Park in Uganda, providing guidance on opportunities to establish or improve ecosystem services.
  • Presented at the Third International Conference on Forests and Water in a Changing Environment in Japan, designed to encourage international experts to share the latest science and technology, provide an interactive discussion forum, develop long-term collaborations, and produce a special journal issue.
  • Served as a founding member of the International Pest Risk Mapping Workgroup and as a planning committee member for the 6th International Pest Risk Mapping Workshop held in Tromsø, Norway.
  • Participated in the East African Community Transboundary Ecosystems Management and Conservation Workshop in Tanzania, which included representatives from 10 African countries and highlighted strengths, weaknesses, challenges, and opportunities in managing natural resources.
